ElfDoll Meet-up

The Elfdoll meetup was absolutely crazy – 80 tickets were sold ahead of time and a few more at the door. The room was literally wall to wall people and I don’t know how anyone had the patience to stand in line to pay and look at the sales tables. But they did! LOL There were Elfdoll special dolls with faceups by Christy Stone, my stuff, Dollheart items and other Elfdoll items. I think everyone had a good time. I was so busy at my table that I could hardly keep track of what was going on. Saw a lot of “old” doll friends that I hadn’t seen in a few years – they were recent converts to resin BJDs. :)

Saturday, January 31

Started out doing my Sweaters-To-Sew workshop – had 10 people there and it went well. Introduced two new sock sweater patterns for BJDs – one in SD size and the other in MSD size (pattern pieces to fit MSD, Ellowyne & 14″ Kish size dolls). Both patterns have long and short sleeve sweater versions as well as leggings that can be made from socks or cotton/lycra fabric (separate pattern pieces for each fabric). Once I return home both patterns will be made available on my website in both a printed version (to be sent via snail mail) or a PDF version.

BJD Mini Convention:
Had a demo on sculpting a hand – very informative but I sure don’t have the aptitude for this! LOL Catrina Sanders (sp?) introduced Paul Pham’s new BJD fashion doll – 16″ size and approx. the shape/size of Tyler, etc. A limited number were sold at the convention – to be delivered in early March (yes, I ordered one). :) There was a costume contest and 3 prizes (1st, 2nd & 3rd place) were given out.

Animal Cracker Social with Goodreau Dolls:
A fun event with Paulette Goodreau – she promises to have lots of new things introduced in the next year. Each participant received a 5″ resin BJD with two heads – one head is a little monkey complete with “monkey suit” costume. The other head is a “human” head and we received a little dress, tights, shoes & wig for that version. This doll is a limited edition of 150. She was also selling and autographing her new book “Please Come Out & Play” – her ABC dolls are made from the book’s characters.

An Afternoon of Tea & Ennui:
A fun time with Wilde Imagination. Each table was “challenged” to create a poem about one of Ellowyne’s friends – Baroquen Dream (sp? Like Baroque N Dreams). The poems were full of boredom and woe! LOL They picked two tables as winners and each person at the table got a prize. The event doll is a beautiful raven haired Ellowyne (long hair) with the “new” makeup (I apologize for not taking pictures. I started packing up and just didn’t have the energy to unpack her, take pictures and pack her back up again). Robert Tonner was also there and he’s always fun.

Aston-Drake Galleries:
Ashton-Drake Is introducing a new vinyl jointed doll called Delilah Noir with 14 points of articulation – she is called a ball jointed doll.  She will be selling for $160.00.
Dollcis:
A new doll created and sculpted by Paul Pham.  I had the chance to chat with him for a while – very nice guy and I really like these dolls….(the) dolls remind me of Sybarites – but with softer features and a beautiful fashion doll body similar to Tyler, etc.  He told me they were made of a lighter resin and a matte finish – they pose beautiful (absolutely no kickiness) and I really liked the feel of them.  They come with a nicely blushed body – he said they all come that way.  You can get more information on them at his website -www.dollcis.com.
Elfdoll:
The booth was very crowded all 4 times I tried to go by there!  LOL  Ms. Cholong had her hands full, but I was able to get some nice pictures and hopefully by at least Sunday (at the Elfdoll meetup) I can get more information.  The little new flower dolls are adorable in person – I snapped a picture of the cards showing the names.  I overhead Ms. Cholong talking about the little pig “toys” and she said they have kept them inexpensive so they could be sold at toys instead of collectables – and you can pop their head off and insert a little attachment (that stays put after the head is put back on) then they can be a keychain.  Kind of cute.
Goodreau:
Paulette has all sorts of things up her sleeves – and she’s always such a hoot.  Her dolls that go along with her “Please Come Out and Play” book are wonderful.  They are around 12″ tall but seemed bigger in person – they are “wide” and both Paula (of DDE) and I were surprised at how big they looked compared to the pictures.  They are really quite cute and reasonable priced…  She had the two new sculpts (female and male) that are very nice – and her critters and Oz dolls are neat. When I snapped the picture of her with one of her dolls she said “pictures of me always come out bad” – but I think this one is kind of cute.  :)
Kish:
Helen has a beautiful 2009 line of her Chrysalis dolls.  Also, tomorrow there is an event for a “Ping-Ping” doll.  She is a special and is part of a new line of dolls that Kish is marketing.  They are called Senson Limited and are created by the Ruby Red company (who produces a lot of the Kish clothing) – they are 12″ articulated dolls (very similar to the 14″ Chrysalis dolls) and are cute as can be.  There are 3 dolls in the regular line – Ping Li, Lucy & Lori and will be sold thru US retailers (that carry Kish dolls) for $180.00 each.
Wilde Imagination:
The most interesting booth in the show!  LOL  Lots of new Ellowyne’s – the newest faces/makeup of the basics are beautiful in person.  There is also the new (not shown on-line yet) “Pop Goes Oz” trio – a new facial sculpt on Ellowyne’s body.  Very funky version of Oz!  Dorothy and the witch will be $139.00 – and Glinda will be $149.00  They are also coming out with a vinyl version of Evangeline Ghastly – she will have glass eyes, but they cannot be changed out.  Some dolls will have rooted hair – and there will be at least one version that will have a wig (that can be changed).  Because the vinyl comes out slightly smaller than the resin – she is a little smaller but supposedly will still be able to wear “regular” resin Evangeline’s clothing.  She has vinyl ball joints – and will sell for “less than $160.00″ – they don’t have a final price on her yet.  I took a close-up of the bat because I thought he was hysterical!
